As we get deeper and deeper into the longer days of summer, it is time to dress to stay cool. Swapping out your wardrobe is one thing. However, if you have forgotten your shoes, then don’t you worry. Here is everything you can do about summer footwear and ensure coolness.
A part of keeping feet healthy in summers is to ensure you keep your feet cool. Warm shoes or even wrong shoes can cause serious infections in your feet alongside feeling hot. These infections can go as far as having your foot amputated if left untreated. The bare minimum is smelly feet, and even that is terrible.
Everyone understands that you cannot wear flip flops everywhere and all the time. However, to keep your feet healthy and cool, we have made a comprehensive guide to help you understand the different kinds of footwear for summer that you can rock.
Initial tips to summer footwear
We will talk about the styles later on in this blog. However, what you should know are the basics that you should look out for. So, consider this section a quick buying guide to ensure that you know what you are looking out for.
Know the materials
The first thing you should know is the kind of materials that work best in summer. Canvas, mesh, or perforated leather are generally breathable and very summer friendly. If you choose rubber or foam, then ensure that the shoes are open to give you the ventilation you need.
Fit
This is not only about the fit of your summer shoes, but shoes in general as well. Ensure that any footwear is absolutely the perfect fit. Not too tight, and not too loose. A fun tip is that you may find some swelling in the summers on your foot. In the afternoon, when your feet are at their largest, try on shoes to get the right fit.
Shoe life
Summer is generally harsher on so many things including shoes. Since the activities and the weather is harsh, ensure that you hold the highest quality of shoes in terms of material and its construction. Especially check for shoes that can take quick wear and tear.
Colors
If you are not looking to buy a pair of shoe for every dress you have, or for every event that you have to attend, then finding neutrals is important. The general consensus is that neutral colors are tan, gold, silver, black, and white.
I disagree!
For me neutral colors are the colors that are most in your wardrobe. For example, I have a lot of blues, greens, and yellows! Hence, my shoe collection majors in these colors alongside black and whites.
Since I am a colorful person, I have many mixed color patterns in my wardrobe too. Hence, I do not shy away from getting bright shoes as well since they go with most of what I own!
To get neutral shoes for you, check out what your wardrobe has and find colors according to that.
Sandals
Everyone wants to wear sandals in summer. They are generally more open with additional comfort. They keep your foot open and lightweight as well. However, if you wish to choose sandals, these are some of the kinds of sandals that you should consider.
Flip Flops
Easy on, easy off! Summer flip flops are lightweight, comfy, water resistant, and casual. However, remember that flip flops are very casual. Wear them either at the beach, near the pool, or even at home. Even if your office is casual, wearing them looks tacky and unpresentable.
Slides
Slides are one of the most versatile and trendy sandals. In fact, for women in Pakistan, it is so awesome because they are trending and comfortable.
Slides grip the grim of your foot and keep it from slipping out while staying comfortable. There are slides to wear at home that are usually rubber or foam, or you can get some of the formal ones out there that are made from leather with some embellishments to make them stand out.
When choosing slides remember to see that they are easy to slip on and off. If they are tight on the width of the foot, you are actually suffocating your foot and not doing any favors on the circulation.
Strappy sandals
Sandals with straps are generally great to help keep the shoe in the foot with ample support. These sandals can be in leather or faux leather. With a little bit of embellishments, you can wear them to formal and informal events at the same time. They are great for women at the office and as such as well.
Strappy sandals are also available for men. They are easy on and easy off. And No! Socks do not go with sandals and are not meant to be worn with sandals.
Espadrilles
Espadrilles are made from lightweight fabric on top. The bottoms are generally made from natural fibers like jute that help them be breathable and also comfortable
Espadrilles are known for their woven soles and lightweight fabric uppers, making them perfect for summer.
Espadrilles are available as flats and wedges as well. If you are overweight or have a flat foot, then wedge espadrilles are perfect to add some height and style with discomfort. While they generally are plain and simple, they are great for everyday wearing.
Sneakers
Sneakers! You may be wondering how closed shoes can keep you cool? Well, if you choose the right type of sneakers, you can be comfortable along with keeping your foot cool and healthy.
Your best bet here is to wear breathable and lightweight canvas sneakers. Cotton or linen is the most popular materials. Both these materials have natural qualities of air circulation and breathability. They furthermore are available in several different styles, colors, designs, and you can also DIY them with fabric paint.
However, there is something you need to remember. Never wear sneakers without socks! If you are wearing sneakers without socks, there is no way the footsweat has a place to go. You are building an eternal ground of fungal infections for your feet. Furthermore, you are also allowing chaffing causing bristles on your feet.
To stay cool even with socks, ensure you find cotton socks that are light and thin. These will keep your feet secure and avoid any problems while wearing sneakers.
Mules
If you want to be easy but not wear closed shoes, then mules are the perfect combination. And they look good.
Mules are like slides, but they are closed in the front. They can have colors, embellishments, or just be simple. They also come in several materials like leather and faux leather. The good thing about mules is that you do not have to wear socks with them.
Conclusion
Your entire body stands on two feet of yours! The shoes that go on these feet are essentially the only contact your body makes to the ground. The pressure on them can be palpable. Help your feet out by getting shoes that help you stay fresh and balanced.
The heat can bring so many problems and shoes should not be one of those problems.
